Policy Period Coverage runs from 31 December 2024 (4pm) to 31 December 2025 (4pm NZLT).
All rugby clubs and provincial unions affiliated with New Zealand Rugby qualify for coverage.
This is the most common form of liability insurance, protecting clubs from legal liability to third parties for personal injury or property damage connected to their business activities. Coverage extends to clubroom ownership or leasing and other facilities.
Protects against employee injury claims that fall outside the Accident Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1992. Changes to ACC legislation means that employers have increased exposure to claims made by employees for damages as a result of injuries sustained in the workplace.
Covers defence costs and penalties (fines) from unintentional breaches (or alleged breaches) of specified Acts of Parliament related to club activities. Coverage applies only where statute allows, excluding deliberate or reckless non-compliance.
This covers directors, officers, employees and committee members of the club (and the club itself) for legal liability which arises from any wrongful act committed (or alleged) in the discharge of their duties on behalf of the club. Wrongful acts can include breach of trust, breach of duty, neglect or error.
Covers costs, including defence costs, for any claims against an employer (the club) for wrongful acts against an employee. Insurers must be notified as soon as a personal grievance is raised.
New Zealand Rugby arranges this insurance for all New Zealand Rugby-affiliated rugby clubs and provincial unions. Contact us with any questions about your coverage.
The policy will not provide cover for any of the following:
Download a Certificate of Insurance, which can be used as evidence of cover. Please note that this links to the policy wording which details the cover provided including the applicable policy conditions & exclusions.
The Club Liability Insurance programme addresses the requirements of the vast majority of New Zealand rugby clubs and provincial unions, meaning most individual clubs and unions won't need to arrange separate liability insurance.
However, if the limits of cover are not enough for your club or union (especially for larger clubs or unions with substantial assets or other business activities) then separate or higher cover may be needed.
Insurance cover for club or union property such as buildings, contents, stock, equipment or money is not currently available via this facility.
Gallagher can assist clubs and Provincial Unions with their insurance needs on an individual basis.
Looking for additional revenue for your club? The Gallagher Club Kickback initiative helps rugby clubs secure ongoing financial support by referring local businesses for insurance services.
When a new business you refer becomes a Gallagher client, your club receives 15% of the annual broking commission for every year they remain with us.
