Motor Vehicle Register
Waka Kotahi, the NZ Transport Agency is responsible for managing the Motor Vehicle Register. The Motor Vehicle Register includes the names and addresses of people who are registered owners of vehicles in New Zealand.
Under s.241 of the Land Transport Act 1998 (LTA) Waka Kotahi can authorise organisations to access the Motor Vehicle Register for specified purposes.
Waka Kotahi has authorised Arthur J. Gallagher & Co (NZ) Limited to access the Motor Vehicle Register under Gazette Notice 2022-au4072 published on 28 September 2022 for the purposes of assessing applications for insurance and managing claims under insurance policies as the authorised agent of insurers.
Any person can notify Waka Kotahi that they do not wish to have their name(s) and address(es) made available through the Motor Vehicle Register under an authorisation under s.241 of the LTA. For more information about the Motor Vehicle Register please visit www.nzta.govt.nz
