Introducing Club Kickback: strengthening grassroots rugby in New Zealand
Rugby is more than just a sport in New Zealand – it’s the heartbeat of communities, bringing people together on and off the field.
At Gallagher, we recognise the financial challenges many clubs face, especially in today’s tough economic climate. That’s why we’ve partnered with the New Zealand Provincial Unions to launch Club Kickback — an initiative designed to provide long term financial support to grassroots rugby while ensuring businesses benefit from competitive insurance solutions.
How it works
Club Kickback makes it easy for local businesses to support their rugby clubs. Here’s how:
- When a local business associated to a rugby club appoints Gallagher as its new insurance adviser, 15% of the broking fee from their insurance programme is donated to their local rugby club of choice.
- This contribution isn’t a one-time donation—it continues annually as long as Gallagher manages the business’s insurance.
- Businesses aren’t just supporting their local club; they also benefit from competitive insurance solutions that aim to match or improve on existing pricing, terms, or coverage.
Making a real impact
Since its launch earlier in the year, Club Kickback has already raised thousands of dollars for local clubs around the country. Some clubs plan to use these funds for equipment, facilities, and youth programmes, helping to support the growth of the game at grassroots level.
Gallagher commercial broker, Mitch Pryde, knows first-hand how meaningful this initiative is. Reflecting on his lifelong involvement in the game, Mitch says, "A rugby club is the heartbeat of a community. Members gain a community through the enjoyment of playing, watching and celebrating rugby. It's important for the game that this starts at grassroots.

It’s a hard time for rugby clubs financially and I feel proud to be helping clubs through Club Kickback. We are helping to maintain these awesome communities and the game for generations to come."
